The use of ICT for October month second Block

The use of ICT for October month second Block
Class: IV
Subject: Mathematics
Topic: Equivalent Fractions
On 17th October, 2019, my lesson was on “equivalent fraction” for class IV mathematics with the integration of ICT for duration of 45 minutes. I began the lesson by revising the previous lesson and then made a link to the actual topic.
For instance:
1.      What is equivalent fraction?
2.      List two equivalent fraction of 2/8?
Then I gave the instructions and demonstrated on how to go about the activity on PowerPoint presentation. After that I had divided my children into four groups of five members and assigned them to prepare a PowerPoint presentation on equivalent fractions.  By making the children to sit in their respective group, I asked them to solve and prepare PowerPoint presentation on the following questions.
1.      Write the definition of the equivalent fraction.
2.      Find four equivalent fractions of 24/30
3.      Name the fractions in each pair. Tell whether or not the fractions are equivalent.

The children were asked to present their PowerPoint presentation in groups. It was really successful one. Students could learn the equivalent fraction so fast which otherwise would have taken me weeks to teach manually. The quality of their presentation really proved that ICT helps not only the adult learners but also it has great impact on our young learners if given chance. This is one way that we could motivate our learners to take interest in learning.

Therefore, I could conclude that our 21st century learners can really explore and get information on the given topic.
One drawback that I had come across was children had some challenges in inserting animations and finding the appropriate topic. However, rest of the lesson went well as planned.

ICT integrated in mathematics class

ICT integrated in mathematics class
This time I taught mathematics for class V students with the help of ICT. I have asked the question of how many types of fractions are there, and then how to change the improper fraction into mixed numbers and vice versa. Thus for effective delivery and in the interest of time I have taught how to browse goggle and to find the video tutorial. I have shown the video tutorial on types of fractions. It was also reminded that it can be played and paused any time. Children were so interested to learn.
Next I have provided them with the laptop in groups and asked to browse goggle and go to the video tutorial; student followed the instructions and participated fully in the activity. All the students they did very well.
However, there were few challenges that for some I have to show video tutorial steps for several times. ICT integrated lesson has fully replaced the traditional teaching strategies and kept ourselves fully equipped that contributed significantly towards the teaching learning processes.
ICT integrated lesson (video tutorial) allows students to learn from each other and gain important interpersonal skills.

It broadens the learners’ capacity, helps to develop their curiosity over learning and actively participates in learning. It helps them to explore their innate capacities relating with the confronting task, learning by doing and taking decisions and able to get well socialized with the rest of the members. It provides children with an avenue to express their views, think, share, reason out and respect others views to come to the consent.
The role of teacher here as a facilitator, guide, supervisor and director is very vital and crucial in promoting and in encouraging it as children at this stage need tremendous guidance.

ICT integrated lesson on clothes

ICT integrated  lesson on clothes

This time the lesson I taught was on different types of clothes. I was teaching grade one, English. I have presented the lesson through power point to my students. Lessons sometimes presented through projector actually bring enticement to learners. Teachers work load is reduced immensely and students remain more focused. Since my previous lesson through power point went well, I came up with this lesson. If we do it frequently, children don’t enjoy much, but in my school we have only projector and we hardly get enough chance to use it frequently. To teach about our national dress was easy as children wear it themselves. The problem was with other western clothes. There was no other alternative option than to take another chance integrating ICT to my lesson. Once I thought of bringing different types of clothes to class to give them hands- on activity but found more disadvantages on doing it. Therefore, the best option to have an effective lesson was to get the sources from the internet. I googled it and got about twenty five different pictures of clothes worn by the westerners. I showed it on my projector during my lesson. I found out children knew it much better, even the slow learner and low achiever, they could remember it well. I was satisfied with my lesson that day. Now, I have started believing that integrating ICT to make our lesson effective.

Report on Integrating ICT in my Lesson for third blog

Report on Integrating ICT in my Lesson for third blog

This time my ICT integrated lesson was social studies in class V.  So, for this my topic was Monasteries and Temples. I wanted my students to get information from the internet because the text has only few important dzongs and monasteries reflected. Students were divided into groups and given different tasks.

I used internet facility in my school to let students find more information about the importance of monasteries and dzongs from the website that I provided them. They were asked to just take 30 minutes to browse the net and jot down important points so that they can share it in the class. Once they were back to the class, a member from each group was asked to report their findings to the whole class. As a follow up activity, I presented some important points in power point.

No one learns in the same way because of different learning styles and abilities. Technology provides great opportunities for making learning more effective for everyone with different needs. Likewise, I have a student who doesn’t perform well in studies; I noticed that he was doing quite well while working with finding information from the internet. That’s why I felt, access to the internet gives students access to a broad range of resources. When students were divided into groups and assigned task, they practice collaboration skills by getting involved in different online activities.
The only drawback that I encountered was that students trailed off sometimes from the given task. If the teacher is not very vigilant, there is a chance of students not getting the correct information, they might browse the wrong website and get wrong information. Time management and giving clear instruction is very important while carrying out any activity. Since I have only 21 students in my class, I didn’t face much problem while in the IT lab. The activity instructions were made clear in the class only. Except for some behavioral problems, I feel the lesson went well. I could see that students enjoyed more when they were given an opportunity to browse the net and find out information on their own. It’s good for the students as they get hands on experience with the technology.

Teaching names of fruits and vegetables using technology

Teaching names of fruits and vegetables using technology

This time I am going to share about my lesson. The lesson was on vegetables and fruits for class I. We being in the border area it were much easier for me to teach the particular topic. Many of the fruits and vegetables are already seen and tasted by my students. My students know a lot of names of fruits and vegetables. They have already learnt through the surroundings they are living. Although it was easier for me to talk about the topic but not all of them are privileged to receive such opportunities.

Teaching names of all the fruits and vegetables are not possible because of their adaptive characteristics and habitats. Some fruits and vegetables grow in cold places while others in hot places. So, in such situation use of ICT plays an important role to teach the concept of the topic.

Thinking of the under privilege children and keeping them in mind then I thought of integrating ICT in my lesson. I down loaded the moves and pictures from the net and showed them. After that I could teach them many new names with real pictures. Some of the fruits and vegetables are hardly seen by the children. So they got opportunity to explore many fruits and vegetables.

I showed it on my laptop during my lesson. I found out even the low achiever could catch up very well. I was fully satisfied with my lesson that day. Now I fully believed that by integrating ICT do make the lesson very effective and successful one. Thank you so much for the great idea.

Use of ICT in my Lesson

Use of ICT in my Lesson

I prepared my lesson objectives on power point slide consecutively to teach the lesson using projector. My lesson objectives were prepared in three slides. Preparation of teaching learning materials made using ICT, I downloaded the moves and pictures from the net of domestic animals.

The lesson was on domestic animals taught in class I English. Though it was impossible to bring the real object to the class and show it to them. Even the animals are not available in the area we lived in. For instance since we are in southern parts of Bhutan, we will not be able to see yaks, horses, etc. So I thought that and then integrated the lesson. I could teach them with names and real pictures. For some children they could name it with their local language and for some other they couldn’t.

After going through the pictures and names of domestic animals, children could tell their names and match with the pictures. Without the use of ICT I thought I could have limited the knowledge for the children. Children love when we have integrated lesson.

Children show very interest to learn through such teaching method using ICT.  Technology encourages a more active participation in the learning process which can be hard to achieve through a traditional lecture environment. When the lessons are taught through PowerPoint presentation, teachers and students get ample time to prepare the lesson and activities for the children which enhances in learning.
